A Choice for Farmington Town Board.
As a Farmington native, I was raised in Pumpkin Hook and graduated from Victor High School in
1992 with Honors. I continued my education earning an Associates Degree from Monroe
Community College and a Bachelor of Science from the SUNY College of Environmental Science
and Forestry at Syracuse University.
After college, I relocated to a suburb of Philadelphia where I worked for 2 years helping to start
up an Internet Company while also learning Accounting on the job. Presented with an
opportunity to work for Bristol Myers Squibb managing customer accounts, I then moved to
Princeton/Plainsboro, New Jersey. After quickly moving up within that Department and
enjoying my time in Accounting, I decided to go back to school for a Graduates Degree in
Accounting at Rider University.
About a year into completing my Master’s Degree in New Jersey, my husband and I decided to
move back to NY state to start a family knowing that our parents were close by. In 2003, we
moved into the Oneida area where we were blessed with our son. Nicolas was diagnosed with Special Needs at a very young age, and I decided to put my career on hold to do everything I could to help make his life a rewarding one.
When Nicolas was about to start Kindergarten, we decided to move back to Farmington where I
knew there was a good school system to help support our son. And with the lowest taxes
around and my family living nearby, Farmington was a perfect fit.
To become my son’s advocate, I took it upon myself to learn everything I could about his diagnosis. I spoke with experts, attended seminars, completed formal training, and read extensively, through which I have become highly versed in best practices for kids with his diagnosis. With Nicolas currently studying History at Nazareth University, I have decided now is the time to devote my energy to my community.
I believe I have a unique perspective that could benefit the Town of Farmington. As a mother
and caregiver to a child with special needs, I have become a problem solver that thinks outside
of the box. I have had to be persistent when others have given up. I have had to look for
solutions when others have said there are none. As a member of the scientific and accounting
communities, I have had to look critically at facts and finances to find the best and most
practical solutions. And as a person who believes that a community is only as strong as its
people, I hope to strengthen the bonds between Town officials and the people they serve. I
hope you join me.
Farmington’s Town Board is comprised of the Town Supervisor and four Town Board Members.
These people play a significant role in the governance as well as the development of the town by shaping the policies of the town and making decisions that impact Farmington.
There are 5 main areas the Town Board is involved in.
1) Policy Making – The Town Board is responsible for creating, amending, or repealing local laws while also approving resolutions regarding various aspects of town life. Examples include zoning regulations, noise control, and public safety standards.
2) Budget Oversight – The Town Board is responsible for approving the annual budget of Farmington as well as deciding how much money goes to all the different departments and services within the town (i.e. Highway and Recreation Departments)
3) Appointing Officials – The Town Board is responsible for selecting town department heads and members of the different boards and commissions. These positions include: Assessor, Town engineer, Town historian, members of the Conservation Advisory Board, members of the Agricultural Advisory Committee, members of the Planning Board, members of the Zoning Board, members of the Recreation Advisory Board, and the Director of Planning and Development.
4) Town Code – The Town Board is responsible for updating and maintaining the regulations and laws that apply to the residents and businesses of Farmington.
5) Constituent Needs – The Town Board is responsible for facilitating public hearings for any potentially important issues as well as addressing the concerns and questions of residents and local businesses.
The Town Board also has oversight and approves the hiring of various positions within the Town Government (i.e. water and sewer employees). Also, the Town Board is responsible for the acceptance and maintenance of the Town Comprehensive Plan which outlays the planning and development objectives of Farmington.
Farmington is a beautiful town that has always been known for its rich farming history. Ask many residents and they will tell you that one of the reasons why they moved here, and why they continue to call Farmington home, is because of its working fields, parks, and natural landscapes. They also call Farmington home because of the easy access to amenities like Eastview Mall, the Thruway, Major Highways, and the city of Rochester.
Sustainable development doesn’t have to be a scary concept. It does not mean all economic development ends. It simply puts a focus on managing the town with a mindset of using available resources efficiently without compromising the needs of our children's future.
A hallmark of any good town government is its constant, clear communication with residents. As town governments vary, board members should be able to help inform residents about town processes in addition to town progresses. Our communication methods should also keep up with new and easier to use technologies.
Farmington Town Board members have often run unopposed, partly due to a widespread misconception about Ontario County’s political makeup that leaves many voters feeling their voice doesn’t matter. I’m running to help change that and ensure all Farmington residents have a real choice.
Farmington Town Board members have traditionally shared similar backgrounds and views on governance. I have different life experiences and can offer another perspective that better represents the whole community.
A key responsibility of a town board member is to reflect the community’s needs. That means actively listening—getting out, talking with residents, and using their input to guide decisions.
While Farmington’s website has improved, it remains hard to navigate, often outdated, and lacks a clear explanation of how our town government functions. I believe it should be a more accessible, timely resource that helps residents understand and engage with their local government.
With a background in Environmental Science and Accounting, and a creative approach to problem-solving, I can help the Town Board balance fiscal responsibility with quality services and land planning that preserve Farmington’s character.
I will be passing along notes from the Town Board Meetings as well as listing upcoming events!
